In 2008, 1.4 million students are graduating with bachelor’s degrees. In addition to a diploma, many of these students will no longer be covered under their parent’s insurance. Most health insurance plans cover the employee’s children while they are full-time students up to the age of 23.
The weakening economy, combined with the difficulty to find entry level jobs, has left many young adults without coverage. According the Commonwealth Fund, nearly 1/3 of young adults in their 20s, do not have health insurance. To combat this issue, some young adults are enrolling into a community college after graduating from a University for the sole retaining their student status.
