Statistics from the US Census Bureau show that the highest percentages of uninsured children occur in the southwest. New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada and Texas all have 14% or more of their children uninsured.
In Texas alone, the Census Bureau’s data shows 1.4 million children, or 21.5%, without insurance. The state leads the nation in uninsured children by both percentage and number. By number, California comes in second with 1 million uninsured children. By percentage, it is Florida with 19.2%.
